The Transport Cost Index (ICT), compiled by the Federación Argentina de Entidades Empresarias del Autotransporte de Cargas (FADEEAC), recorded a monthly increase of 2.25% in July 2026. This brought the cumulative rise for the first seven months of the year to 25%, while the twelve-month change stood at 44%.
July’s increase was higher than May’s 1.91% and June’s 1.81%, although it remained below the 2.42% reported in April. The index monitors eleven categories that directly affect trucking companies’ operating structures and serves as an important reference when reviewing freight rates and budgets.
Tolls recorded the largest increase during the month, rising by 18.3%. Other notable increases included lubricants, at 4.84%; overheads, at 4.14%; and driving staff, at 3.23%. Repairs rose by 1.28%, tyres by 1.83%, insurance by 0.62%, financial costs by 2.16% and rolling stock by 0.29%.
Fuel prices were unchanged in July but fuel remains the largest cost component in many operations. According to the report, it has risen by 34% in 2026, driven particularly by the change recorded in March.
For a trucking company, these figures should not be treated merely as a general benchmark. Before setting a freight-rate adjustment, companies should compare the index with their own cost structure, kilometres travelled, percentage of empty journeys, tolls incurred and type of operation.
